Reduce:
- All our cameras are digital, so there are no nasty chemicals involved in developing film.
- We avoid printing tons of proofs that will just end up in the bin. Instead we offer digital viewings of images using our projector and screen, and web galleries for you to view and order online.
- Our photos, canvas prints and frames are all sourced from local Yorkshire-based suppliers to reduce distribution and transportation.
- We have teamed up with Folio Albums, a top quality fine-art wedding album supplier based in Yorkshire who share our eco-priorities.
- Our home office electricity is 100% from renewable sources.

Reuse:
- The bubble wrap or cardboard packaging on your framed prints or canvases may look like it's been used before - that's because it has! We try to re-use packaging wherever possible.

Recycle:
- We use 100% recycled post-consumer waste paper for our general business stationery.
- Ink cartridges from the general printer are recycled.

Getting to know each other

The way we get beautiful wedding photographs that truly represent you, your loves and dreams is by knowing what they are and who you are. That's why we meet you face-to-face at least three times before your wedding day.

We begin with a consultation at your home, or at our studio. Jackie will bring along album samples; we'll drink tea and talk through your plans so far.

After you confirm your booking, we will arrange your free pre-wedding shoot. This is key to understanding your likes/dislikes, and to making you comfortable with Jackie and the camera - it can be quite intimidating having that great big lens trained on you all day!

A few days after the shoot, Jackie will arrange a viewing of the processed images with you, where she'll work with you to develop the look and feel you want for your wedding day.

Service without compromise

Looking for a wedding photographer in Yorkshire? Our philosophy is simple: you deserve the best. That's why no matter which of our wedding photography packages you choose, you are assured of the same quality, attention to details and range of images from which to make your selection.

We will cover everything from bridal preparations through to the speeches, and to help get the best from every shot we also include a pre-wedding / engagement shoot with every package. There you'll spend time with Jackie, make friends with the camera, and help make your big day even more enjoyable. And yes, it's included in the price.

For more information about our wedding photography packages, click the buttons to the left.
Getting prepared

Before the wedding, Jackie will have 'reccied' all the venues, and will have planned out in advance the main photos bearing in mind all of the things we will have talked about, your special requests and ideas, so all will run smoothly on the day. (Trust us, Jackie is a big fan of lists and plans!)

A week or two before the wedding, Jackie will be in touch to run through the final plan for the day.

On the day of your wedding

Our wedding coverage is from Bridal Preparations right through to the Speeches.

Jackie will turn up early to catch the bride, bridesmaids and family preparing for the day ahead. Meanwhile, Andrew will head to the service venue to capture the arrival of your guests. (If practical, we may also be able to record groom preparations, depending on the locations, distances and timings of the day).

After the Big Day

While you are enjoying your fabulous honeymoon, we will be busy running through all the lovely images from your day, and selecting the 'long-list' for you to choose from for your wedding album. And, because a blank page is incredibly daunting, we'll even produce an outline layout for your album as a starting point. So, when you get back, we'll invite you over to relive your beautiful day, select your favourite images, and design your album.

Once you are totally happy with the layout, we'll carry out any final Photoshop touch-ups on the images before sending off to our fabulous partners at Queensberry in New Zealand to create your beautiful hand-made album(s).

We'll also upload your images to our website in a webgallery for your guests to view and order online, and we'll even give you some personalised business cards with the login details to pass on at your wedding.

Our albums

A wedding album should be a thing of beauty to treasure forever. That's why we offer top-quality 'Duo' albums by Queensberry, classically styled with a contemporary twist, immaculately finished by hand. For more information, please see Queensberry's website.

Should you prefer a more eco-friendly wedding album, we have recently introduced the Fine Art albums by Folio Albums - a local company (based in Yorkshire) - to our portfolio of products. Folio provides first-class albums produced using sustainable and ethically sourced or recycled products. For more information, please see the Folio website.

Our album packages start at just £995. Please download our full wedding price-list, including details of our accessory products here.

Digital Only: Future perfect

Choosing a contemporary digital alternative to a wedding album need not lead to compromise on the quality of the product you hold in your hand. At JCP we lavish the same care, attention to detail and commitment to quality upon our DVD / Bluray package.

Within the beautiful micro-leather folder nestling in its satin-lines presentation box is a pair of bespoke printed discs containing at least 100 high-resolution images, as well as slideshows for playing on your DVD / Blu-ray player, PC or Mac.

Our DVD package is just £895, and can also be included as an accessory to any of our wedding album packages. Please download our full wedding price-list, including details of our accessory products.

Fun for all the family

We know: you don’t like having your picture taken.

If we had a pound for every time we’ve heard that line, we wouldn’t have to charge for our prints. The good news is: it doesn’t have to be that way. With the right photographer - and that’s us - portraiture is fun. Children love it straight away. Adults, gently reminded that people can actually see them all the time even when they aren’t in a photograph, relax and love it too, especially when they see the results. We wouldn’t be doing this job if it wasn’t fun.

The only question is: what kind of fun do you want to have? Being expertly coached and posed by Jackie in our Studio? Or spending a half-day somewhere beautiful with your loved ones in our Lifestyle package?

Studio: Clarity and Elegance

Be it a family group, a new arrival, or a bold statement for a fashion-conscious teenager, we'll work with you to achieve the look you're after. The clean style and pin-sharp quality of our Studio images make them ideal for large wall prints and canvasses - the perfect focal point for any room.

Lifestyle: Precious and Personal

Every day has its moments to treasure, if you know how to look for them. Our half-day Lifestyle shoots are the perfect opportunity to capture those moments - as well as plenty of beautiful posed shots - and our range of superb albums are the perfect way to keep them forever.

Treating yourself couldn't be easier

Finding time for the special things you want to do can be tricky, which is why, at JCP, we do all the hard work. Come to our brand new high street studio and step straight into the spotlight. Or combine one of our funky, contemporary Lifestyle shoots with a fun day out with the children - you choose the venue.

Home viewing, Online ordering

Even after the shoot is over, we make sure choosing and ordering your images is a pleasure, not a chore - and there are definitely no high-pressure sales techniques. View your images at our studio on the big screen, or Jackie can bring her mini-projector to your home for a relaxed evening viewing. She can even show you what the prints will look like on your wall! Then use our secure, password-protected online gallery and ordering system to make your final selection.
Wall prints/displays

We are proud to offer a variety of very special products to suit any home.

Our framed prints are hand-made to order by our local supplier, using top-quality materials and solid wood frames. One of our most popular framed products is the multi-aperture display - each image is individually printed and displayed in its own laser-cut aperture within a double mount.

Our canvas prints are also hand-made in Yorkshire. The image is printed onto high-quality cotton canvas, wrapped around a bespoke wooden frame, and finished with two coats of protective satin varnish.

The Acrylic Float Panel is a very sleek and contemporary way to present your favourite image. With no visible fittings, it gives the impression of floating off the wall.
Albums

There are albums, and then there are albums from J Clitheroe Photography.

The ‘Little Gem’ of the JCP portfolio are our top-quality Queensberry Duo albums. Each album is a bespoke design: you select the images to be included, and we design the layout.

Alternatively, why not let us mount your favourite ten images in one of our gorgeous, hand-made, micro-leather Demi-albums? With four covers to choose from (Lipstick, Powder Blue, Eggshell and Onyx), the price includes prints, mounting and finishing.

Download our full portraiture price-list here.
Gifts

Alongside our larger display prints and albums, we also offer a selection of smaller prints which can make great gifts.

Enjoyed your shoot? Love your images? Why not buy someone you love a portraiture session voucher from our shop?
The JCP Difference

Fresh, fun, stylish images at sensible prices, flexible and hassle-free online ordering and generous commission rates that go up and up: there’s something for everyone to get excited about with J Clitheroe Photography.

Whilst designed for schools, this service is also available for most non-profit-making organisations, including nurseries, pre-school groups, sports clubs, etc.

For more information, click the buttons to the left.
Generous Commission

Our commission rates are highly competitive, starting at 25% on all print sales and 10% on other items (e.g. canvases, framed prints, calendars).

A loyalty bonus that sticks!

For our loyal customers we offer increased commission rates on print sales. On the second separate booking, commission increases to 30%.  For the third and all subsequent consecutive bookings, it goes up to 35% and stays there!

No Administration

Using our online ordering service, parents place orders and make payments directly, so schools don’t need to handle any money or order forms.

Quality and choice

We also offer a choice of studio or environmental portraiture. Many schools choose studio in the autumn term and environmental in the summer term - two unique opportunities to raise funds!
Quality and choice

We treat each child's sitting as a mini portrait session. We aim to provide a range of fun and individual poses for parents to choose from (usually between 3-5 images per child).

Any image, any size

A common complaint about school photos is the restrictive pack sizes, whereby you get too many of one size, not enough of others, and additional prints are extortionately priced.

At JCP we do things differently. We offer parents the opportunity to order any combination of individual images in any combination of sizes, subject to a minimum order price (usually as low as £15).

Online Ordering

We provide a secure password-protected online ordering service, with payment by PayPal or personal cheque. (For those without Internet access, we provide a postal ordering service.)
Fun, fun, fun!

The style of our images is contemporary and based on having fun! Rather than the formal head and shoulders photos we all remember from our school days, our images are natural and candid shots of the children enjoying themselves - be it in a studio setting or, venue and weather permitting, outside at play!

Best friends and siblings

In addition to individual images of each child we are happy to offer ’best friends’ and ’siblings’ options. Our ‘any image, any size’ policy makes this simple.

Family days: an alternative fundraiser!

Invite pupils and their families for a 20 minute individual family photo session at your school on a weekend.

We suggest a booking fee of £10 per family, which is kept by the school along with an agreed commission on the profits from all sales.

(Sales from family day sessions are based on our standard portraiture prices)
Products and Prices

We offer a range of strut-mounted prints from      6”x4” up to 12”x8”, starting at just £4.50. We also offer everything from wallet-size prints right the way up to 30”x20” canvases and framed prints - it says something about our school photographs that people regularly want to hang them over their fireplace!

We also produce group montage prints, and beautiful personalised 12”x18” calendars for fridges or noticeboards - a great gift idea!

The Business
J Clitheroe Photography is a family business, officially launched in April 2008.

Meet the Team: Jackie

Jackie Clitheroe is the sole proprietor of the business, which she thinks means she's 'The Boss'.

Jackie jumped at the opportunity to combine two of her favourite things - photography and a young daughter - to turn professional following the completion of her maternity leave. An affiliate member of the BIPP, Jackie is currently working towards achieving her Licentiateship qualification.

Meet the Team: Andrew

Andrew claims to be the 'General Dogsbody', but Jackie prefers to describe him as her right-hand man!

As technical researcher, web designer, tea-maker and all-round calming influence, Andrew is the rock of the team.

He's also not bad with a camera!

Meet the Team: Mahale

We really understand the 'joy' of photographing young children - Mahale is our inspiration and sometimes willing model.

She keeps us on our toes and helps us maintain focus (pardon the pun) on the really important things in life - butterflies, flowers and fairy wings, of course!

Family Values

As parents, we are personally committed to taking care of our environment, and so strive to take care in our professional life too.

In our endeavours to be as 'green' as we can, we are also conscious of our desire to provide the highest quality products, and have selected our suppliers to achieve the best of both.

How long do the photos take on the day?

The most important thing about your wedding day is that you are getting married! You've invited all your friends and family and have a fantastic celebration planned, so we don't want you to miss it. However, we also know that you will want to look back on this wonderful day for years to come, so we want to make sure you have the perfect album. So, we try to create a perfect balance between capturing beautiful images for you to treasure and giving you time to enjoy the rest of your day too.

Therefore, in addition to the many photos we will capture of you and your guests, we request a minimum of an hour with just the two of you usually between the service and the wedding breakfast to create those special images that will last a lifetime.

For more info, check out our blog for an outline timeplan for a wedding.
Do you charge extra for travelling between venues?

No, it's included in the package.

The only time we may charge additional travel costs would be for weddings outside a 75 mile radius of Selby, or on our worldwide weddings. Please contact us with details of your wedding, including date and location so we can prepare your bespoke quotation.
Will you stay until the First Dance?

Our standard coverage is from bridal preparation to speeches as it forms a nice cut off point for everyone. However, if you want us to hang on for a couple more hours, we will be happy to.

And because you are already effectively buying our time for two week's full time work, another couple of hours isn't really going to make much difference!
How long do you stay on the day?

Our standard coverage is from bridal preparation to sitting down for your meal/speeches, which works out to approximately 8-10 hours.

We do also offer an evening package for large weddings (more than 100 guests), please ask Jackie for more information at your initial consultation meeting.
Have you been to our venue before?

With the thousands of fabulous wedding venues in Yorkshire, it is quite possible that we may not have shot a wedding at your venue. However, rest assured that Jackie will conduct a 'reccie' of your venue(s) a couple of weeks prior to your wedding to find all those beautiful nooks and crannies to get fabulous photos of you, to identify the best places to get the bigger groups shots, etc.

We always wait until a couple of weeks before, so we can see what flowers and trees are currently in bloom, assess the light levels and directions for the time of year, and so the venue is unlikely to have changed significantly between our reccie and your wedding.
Do you do evening photography?

For weddings with over 100 evening guests, we can offer a very special evening photography package. Ask Jackie for more information at your initial consultation meeting!
Who chooses the photos for my album?

Usually it's you, but if you want us to do it (and some people do!), we are happy to oblige. Regardless, we will prepare the long-list, and a baseline album layout with our favourite images ready for your viewing. This is just the starting point, you are free to make changes to your heart's content. We won't send the album to print until you are completely happy with the layout and give us the go ahead.
Who owns the copyright of the images?

The copyright of all images is retained by the photographer. However, if you purchase the DVD of images, we will include a license for you to use and print the images for personal use only.
Can our guests view the images online after the wedding?

Yes! We will set up a secure password-protected section of our website for your guests to view and order images from your wedding online.

On your wedding day, we will give you 250 custom made business cards with the login details for you to pass to your guests. Of course, the page will not be live until after your viewing session!
How long does it take to get the album?

After you return from your honeymoon, we will arrange a viewing day with you to see your images and select your favourites for your album. Once you have confirmed that you are happy with the layout of the album(s), it takes around 8-10 weeks for the album to be completed and delivered back to us.
Should we provide a meal for the photographer(s)?

While we don't require you to do so, it would certainly be most welcome.

Some larger venues will have provision for "crew meals", or sandwich platters served at the bar. On some occasions, we have been fortunate enough to be treated to the full meal and have sat with family and friends in the main dining room - which is great, as we become more integrated with your wedding guests and people relax and we are on hand to capture more photos.
Frequently Asked Questions

1. What should I/we wear?

2. How long does it take?

3. How many photos will you take?

4. Do you do pet portraiture?

5. The print size I want is not listed, can you supply in a different size?

6. How do I view the photos from my shoot? Do you provide a web gallery?

7. Can I buy a DVD of the images from my photo-shoot?

What should I/we wear?

For family groups, we recommend wearing colours that blend well with each other (avoid mixing bold colours and pastels as those in pastel shades may look washed out by comparison to those in bold colours). Wear clothes that you love and that you feel comfortable in. For all shoots, I suggest bringing at least one change of outfit - or at least a change of top - to add variety.

For Lifestyle shoots, bear in mind we will be outside, so dress appropriately for the weather: consider a number of layers so we can take coats off for some shots. Hats can be a great prop. Also, make sure you bring appropriate footwear for the location and weather: if we are going walking across a muddy field, don't forget the wellies!
How long does a portraiture session take?

Anything from 1 hour upwards, as long as we are having fun!

For lifestyle shoots, I usually schedule half a day, but I never schedule more than one in a day, so if we are having a great time, we'll carry on for a bit longer.
How many photos will you take?

This varies from shoot to shoot. I will usually take over a hundred images, but will short-list these down for your viewing to around 20-40 images.
Do you do pet portraiture?

Yes! We know pets are part of the family (Cindy, our lurcher-cross, never lets us forget it!), so of course we can include them in a portraiture session, or indeed give them one of their own!
The print size I want is not listed, can you supply in a different size?

The sizes listed are our standard sizes, but if there is something else you would like, please let us know the details:  we can usually accomodate most special requests.
How do I view / order photos from my shoot? Do you provide a web gallery?

We will schedule a private viewing of the best images from your shoot in your own home within two weeks of the session. Following this viewing, we will upload these images to a secure page on our website for you, your family and friends to view and order prints. We will send you an email with a link and password. The images will remain on our website for at least six weeks before being archived offline.
Can I buy a DVD of the images from my photo-shoot?

Yes, we can supply a DVD beautifully presented in keepsake micro-leather folder in a velvet bag. The copyright of all images is retained by the photographer, however, we will include with the DVD a license for you to use or print any of the images contained for personal use only.
Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why don't you offer packages?

2. Is there a minimum number of children?

3. Have you been CRB checked?

4. How long does it take to do the photos?

5. How much space do you need to set up the equipment?

Why don't you offer packages?

Based on personal experience and feedback from parents and schools, it is very often the case that when buying packs you end up with more photos than you need and you can't choose a variety of images without buying additional packs. We remove these restrictions and allow parents to choose exactly how many of each size of each picture they need, so there is no waste.

We have also found that, as our images are beautiful portraits rather than simple school snaps, many parents choose to order larger images to display on their walls.
Is there a minimum number of children?

In order to ensure that a session is cost-effective, we usually require a minimum of ten children / families to be photographed in a session.
Have you been CRB checked?

As a self-employed individual, I am not able to apply for a CRB check directly, but am more than happy to submit through your organisation if required.

In any case, I always recommend that a member of your organisation be present while the photos are being taken - it helps the children relax as there is someone familiar with them and we get better photos.
How long does it take to do the photos?

How long is a piece of string?! It very much depends on the age and number of children being photographed.

As a guideline, I usually allow approx 10 mins per child - for younger ones it can take a little longer to get them settled and comfortable with the lights; for older children, it can be much quicker.
How much space do you need to set up the equipment?

For Studio Shoots a clear area 10'x15' (3mx4m) or larger with an 8' ceiling height should be set aside for the purpose prior to the photographer's arrival.
